Unfortunately, due to a prior commitment, Brian and I are unable to attend the May 28th SPAN meeting. We are however very interested in the traffic commissions recommendations. Is there something available online that we can review?

Additionally, during March's SPAN meeting, Paul Steel indicated that the speeding problem on Wilson Avenue in front of the High School may be alleviated as a result of the new construction therefore they would not be making any recommendations for traffic calming in that area of South Park. In our absence, would you please ask them to revisit the problem once construction is complete so they may determine if further traffic calming is necessary.

Thanks for your consideration.

Paul Steel and Chris Gluck from the Morgantown Traffic Commission asked to make a presentation and solicit neighborhood comments on the commission’s recommendations for traffic flow in South Park. If you have any concerns, this is your chance to express them—Wednesday, May 28th at our monthly SPAN meeting.

SPAN meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at the First Christian Church on the corner of Cobun Avenue and Grand Street at 7:00 for the social and 7:30 for the meeting start. We do hope that you can attend, thank you.

I attended the May 28 meeting and agree with the proposals regarding the various traffic calming solutions under study. I recommend we start with the raised traffic tables at the intersections indicated on Park & Grand Streets. These tables would also provide safe ped-X crossings too. Parking changes also seemed reasonable especially on upper Grand Street where cars begin their speedily descent. We should implement and evaluate these methods immediately and in stages rather than attempt too much too soon. My thanks to the Traffic Commission (and Paul & Chris) for their attention to our concern. Also the SPAN Board should commence discussions with MHS regarding the new traffic and bus patterns around the school and also the design of new ped-x crossing. Relatedly, is there any solution to the blind curve on Wilson near Allison Street? It is very hazardous to cars andf people alike. Stan

Regarding traffic flow, Jackson Ave. is the only street parallel to Wilson that does not have stop signs. As a result, vehicles speed down this street to cut across to Grand or vice versa. I have noticed many of the speeding vehicles proceed accross Grand and toward South Hills.
